Nourishing your blood is essential to remaining healthy.

Strong blood is found in healthy skin and hair. To help increase our direct blood flow to the liver, the organ that is responsible for storing blood, one must fuel themselves with tonic herbs.

What are tonic herbs? Tonic herbs are herbs that are meant to be taken regularly over a long period of time, in order to help support the body and to stay in balance. Some tonic herbs do more than support our overall health, some support specific body systems such as the immune and nervous systems. There are four different categories of tonic herbs; Qi, Blood, Yin, and Yang. Each category has a specific action for each part of the body.

Qi, Blood, and Yin herbal tonics are perfect for this time of year. We rest, look inward, nourish ourselves, slow down and take it easy. Qi herbs help move the energy and warmth within your body, Ginger and Jujube Dates are great example. Blood building herbs such as Donq Quai and Longan Berries help replenish lost blood, especially for women. Yin herbs such as White Peony and Goji help bring moisture to dry conditions.

When feeling dehydrated, irritable, low energy, or simply needing to replenish lost blood, making a tonic from these herbs can help you stay healthy, beautiful and youthful.
